Who is God to You?

If someone were to ask you what roles God plays in your life, what would you tell them? Would it be Savior? Friend? Father? All of the above? What about all His other titles? God has His roles, but so do we. We are used to playing a handful of roles in people’s lives, as they also do for us. Your dad might hold the role of father, provider, protector, teacher, and friend. If you have a solid father figure in your life, the list might continue, but eventually that list would end. Each role your dad plays would not be perfectly executed, nor would the roles he plays be equal in strength. Your dad might excel as a provider, but fall short in the friend or encourager role. For some of you, perhaps your dad holds no role, and never did.

The Ripple Effect

How What We Do Matters More Than We Think

We celebrated with them in worship and in their baptism and afterwards our family all shared a meal together. We gave them gifts and let them know that their decision to follow Jesus was the biggest and best decision they’ll make their entire lives! The good news for us today is that He still speaks! He speaks through His still small voice, our pastor, spouse, a child, circumstances, strangers, countless ways really. While God can speak to us countless ways He primarily speaks through the Holy Spirit, his Son Jesus and through His Word. The Word of God is living and active (Hebrews 4:12) and it reveals to us what’s on the very mind of God! Today I’d like to touch on 3 primary things that God reveals through Scripture and how these truths can benefits us.

The real problem of the Christian life

comes where people do not usually look for it

In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis wrote:

…the real problem of the Christian life comes where people do not usually look for it. It comes the very moment you wake up each morning. All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in. And so on, all day. Standing back from all your natural fussings and frettings; coming in out of the wind.
