How To Experience Real And Lasting Change!

Developing Healthy Thought Patterns

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2

When God delivered the Israelites from the captivity of Egypt He led them through the wilderness as they made their way to the promised land. What could have only taken them two weeks ended up taking them forty years! Why did it take that long? Because it was easy for God to take them out of Egypt but it was a lot harder for God to take Egypt out of them. He tried to humble them, testing them in hopes that they would trust Him and obey (Deuteronomy 8:2).

However the Israelites had been in captivity for so long that even when they were free they were still slaves! Not slaves to the Egyptians but slaves to their limited thinking. They were full of pride, disobedient and never really trusted in the Lord. The journey took forty years because over and over again they responded negatively to both God and difficult situations. They were stiff necked, they complained, they rebelled and they were so stubborn that they refused to think any differently and that was the problem!

Limited thinking will keep you from your promised land! The reason so many believers never experience all that God has for them is because they don’t renew their minds! And therefore same old thinking results in same old actions and there is no transformation! Don’t allow your past to dictate your future! Don’t allow your past negative experiences to shape your thinking, allow God’s word to do that! The worst thing that you could do when going through a wilderness season is adopt a wilderness mindset!

You need to think about what you think about! Spend more time reflecting and examining both God’s word and your thoughts and actions in response to it. Remember it’s impossible to renew your mind and not be transformed! Therefore the more we renew our minds the more we are going to experience the fullness of what God has in store for us.

Start by asking God to reveal to you lies that you are currently believing. Ask Him to show you negative thought patterns that are not from Him. Commit to spending time in both God’s Word and in His presence. I promise you this – His word will not come back void! It will accomplish what He desires it to do and you will not only see transformation in your own life but you will start walking more and more into the plans that He has for you!

Be encouraged, be transformed, renew your mind!
